Google doesn't load but bookmarks do...

Google doesn't load but bookmarks do... When I load either IE or Firefox, both start up just fine. If I click on a bookmark, it takes me directly to the website with no problems. When I type into the search bar or try to go to www.google.com directly, it cannont find the site. I've run malware scans using Trendmicro, Malwarebytes and Spybot. I only found one thing called "internet security essentials". I removed it, did a registry cleaning and rebooted everything. I even tried to clean the DNS per some other forum posts to no avail. I've found a couple of threads out there but no definitive solution. Thanks in advance for any advice and help. I have a partial solution for you and see if it works or not, in Internet Explorer, go to tools > internet options > advanced. After that scroll down to HTTP 1.1 settings and remove the tick next to use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections. Thanks for that idea. Unfortunately, I tried that and it didn't work. I have connection to the internet and all my bookmarks work, just not when I use the google search bar or type it directly into the address bar. And it doesn't work in either IE or Firefox. I'm hesitant to uninstall IE and reload it but may have to. btw, I'm using XP, SP[?]. I have all the latest Microsoft Updates.
